SSA President Graeme Jennings said “The Board of School Sport Australia is again saddened to add these championships to the list of those we have already cancelled. The Board continues to sympathise with students and teachers as we understand many would have begun preparation for this year’s Championships. However, the safety and welfare of students and teachers plus all other people involved in our championships is paramount to SSA hence the decision to cancel them”.
Mr Jennings went on to say “Like everyone in the community, we hope the restrictions on sporting activities are lifted as soon as possible. We recognise however that this is an issue that may take many months to overcome. A number of member bodies have indicated they will not be in a position to select and prepare teams in 2020 hence the decision to cancel, not postpone, the Championships”.
School Sport WA’s priority over the next week will be to provide refunds for the hundreds of students who have paid to trial for our sports this year.
We would ask that people be patient with us during this very busy time.
Should you require any further details at this stage please contact the SSWA Office via email [email protected]
We appreciate that students, staff and officials will be disappointed, as we are. However, the long term health and welfare of everyone in the community in relation to minimising the spread of the COVID-19, must be the highest priority.
Thanks for your understanding and support.
